So which version will be on Fear Fest this year?

Theatrical or TV cut?

reply

Who cares? I'm sure you have them on dvd as well, Tank. You can watch whenever you want.

RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Matt Roberts. You were great.

reply

Because people like watching them on tv too.

Don't call it a comeback. I've been here for years.

reply

^ This. Watching these movies on DVD doesnt come close to how it feels watching them on TV during this month. I don't know why but it feels so much better when it comes on AMC. Even tho its edited and has commercials theres something so special about it.

I hate commercials, so, I do not like it.

reply

Who says you have to watch the commercials? There's lots of things you could do while you're waiting. You could go drop a deuce. You could get on here and tell someone to kindly blow it out their ass. The possibilities are endless. Then you can pop back in front of the tv just in time to watch the blast from the explosion at the end make Jimmy fall in the pool of Mrs. Alves' blood.

No thanks.

reply

Well said diamond Donnie, you hit the nail on the head

reply

Hopefully the TV cut. I like the scene where they insert the closeup of Myers from another scene and make it look like Mrs. Elrod sees him. Hilarious

Theatrical Blu Ray. The TV cut will never see the light of day again. 1. They don't have to anymore, because higher channels don't sensor like basic cable. 2. They can tweak commercials to fill the movie's running time better.

Don't you have the DVD's, Real?

I hate commercials, though. Ruins the flow.

Extra scenes don't do it for me. Especially the Myers selfie after scaring Mrs. Elrod.

I always look forward to the AMC Fear Fest - I think, what, 2 extra days to celebrate their 20th anniversary?

This is when I load up my DVR - I still have the first four F13s from last year's Fear Fest on the box.

My hope is that they further expand Fear Fest to include some indie horror, but I have my doubts as they insist on replaying Walking Dead from the first episode, every year, counting down to the season premier.

reply

I don't even care for the Walking Dead too much.

Movie Theater: Young Frankenstein 10/10. RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time.

reply

I have it on DVD but I still like watching it on regular TV also. It kind of like that old feeling of watching a horror movie on the local stations back when you were a kid or teenager on a Friday or Saturday night. The classic nostiglia.

Yep. I miss those days.

reply

Can't get past the commercials when I can pop in the Blu Ray and forgo them entirely. No commercials, I'd actually watch it.

"He came home." - Dr. Sam Loomis from the original HalloweeN

reply

Agreed. Commercials ruin it. And the commercials are terrible to boot. Reality shows, and such. Bleech.

Movie Theater: Young Frankenstein 10/10. RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time.

reply

I can understand why - there are times where I pop in the DVD / blu-ray so I can just immerse myself

Then, there are other times, i.e., I may be online or talking to the spouse where I like to put the TV version on - lends itself better to multitasking!

reply

It's on right now...with commercials...just can't do it...

Drowning out the wife's yakking with the sounds of Halloween, my friend? Lol.

There is something satisfying about watching horror movies on live TV this time of year. I've been watching the heck out of Netflix this month, but I enjoyed watching Halloween and half of 2 tonight.
Kinda like catching at least one of A Christmas Story during the 24 hour run every year.

What's funny is while watching Halloween 2, they edited the simplest, tame "gore"(aka blood splatter) yet they show the gruesome, bloody gore on Walking Dead on the same channel. Even earlier in the day.

Lol good point jay, and I also catch a Christmas Story during the 24 hour marathon as well

reply

Not surprising. They still can't use the cut with the nudity in it, so they most likely used the old copy they had when they first started showing it long before standards and practices eased up. As for the sped up credits, on both ends, it's to fill run time. AMC is commercial heavy so it's fair to say that they'd rather speed up the movie and fill the gap with paying advertisers than worry about fans. They have to get to the next movie on time.

AMC sucks.

Like I said, it is likely an old copy of Halloween II they bust out for only 2 weeks a year, tops. Why go to the trouble to re-edit or upgrade it? Still can't show nudity and the movie doesn't loose a thing without blood. It's show, that's it. Adds nothing to the story. Just to make people squeamish. Honestly, thanks to the box set and all the other releases of these films the last 2 years, who really watches them with commercials? And why? Surely there are better ways to use your time. It's a tradition, but it's not exactly a ratings grabber.

It'd be interesting to know what the ratings are like for Fear Fest, actually.

I'm going to guess the TV cut.

Which is the worst.

reply

Actually, it is the theatrical cut, minus some of the violence, language, and all nudity are cut. The only violent scenes that are missing are, the first death is missing the blood spurt, the Marshall's death is cut, and the shot of the bloody scalpel after Loomis is stabbed. The rest of the deaths are completely uncut. The stronger profanity like the f-words, s-words, and religious profanities are muted. The edited closed captions are kind of strange. Whenever a bad word is cut, the captions replace it with (deleted).

reply

So what you're saying is that there is basically yet another cut of the movie?

Horror_Metal

reply

Yes. At least it's not as ridiculous as the first TV cut.

reply

I will say though that the TV cut does correct one error that always bugged me in the original version. The original showed the news broadcast of the three murder victims being discovered way before the scene in which the police say that they "just discovered" the victims (one of them being Annie, etc.). The TV cut reversed these two scenes and showed them in the opposite order so that it makes more sense, the cops now discovered the bodies and then a little later it's in the news.

Doesn't it also show Michael cutting the power in the hospital which explains the power outage?

Don't call it a comeback. I've been here for years.

reply

Well, not actually cutting the power, but, they show the scene of it going out in the tv cut. Good scene, but Laurie...or Curtis isn't on top of her game.
