Audiobooks for the Damned rocks - HII 81' Reading

I may be late to this party, but this is just awesome if you can't (or dont want to) get your hands on the novel

Highlight 10 minutes in - Mrs. Elrod is a really sweet lady not given enough screen time in the film LOL - she's handing out her homemade cookies to the children that she genuinly cares about

You listened to that whole thing? Holy mackrel.

X-Men: Apocalypse 8/10. TMNT: Out of the Shadows 9/10. RIP Doris Roberts. You were wonderful in ELR.

reply

nooooo, I'm only 48 minutes in at this point - been listening to it 5-10 minutes at a time

one of these nights i'll probably crack open a brew and listen to it - it creeped me out in the middle of the day that is for sure

reply

That's like 3 and a half hours it looks. Crazy long.

X-Men: Apocalypse 8/10. TMNT: Out of the Shadows 9/10. RIP Doris Roberts. You were wonderful in ELR.

reply

yup

i have this and Halloween III audiobook lined up - dim the lights, crack one open, and . . .probably fall asleep!

reply

Fall asleep is right. The movies not even that long. Lol.

X-Men: Apocalypse 8/10. TMNT: Out of the Shadows 9/10. RIP Doris Roberts. You were wonderful in ELR.

reply

I keep thinking of having a beer by the fire, like Tom Atkins in Creepshow

"That's why God made fathers babe . . ."

reply

I enjoy Creepshow. The Ted Danson/Leslie Nielsen segment was my favorite.

X-Men: Apocalypse 8/10. TMNT: Out of the Shadows 9/10. RIP Doris Roberts. You were wonderful in ELR.

Nice, Kurt.

X-Men: Apocalypse 8/10. TMNT: Out of the Shadows 9/10. RIP Doris Roberts. You were wonderful in ELR.

reply

The Birthday Cake segment with a dancing Ed Harris is mine

No one makes undead skeletal monsters anymore - Nicotero on the Walking Dead said the Zombies won't rot to that point, however, there is something about that look

they do it well in An American Werewolf in London too

if you look at the making of / behind the scenes of Creepshow (can't remember which one) with Tom Savini, he talks about what it took to get the skeletal "host" to work outside the boy's window - a great, spooky early 80s ghoul

reply

I liked the one with all the bugs too. I think it might've been the last segment. Or next to last.

X-Men: Apocalypse 8/10. TMNT: Out of the Shadows 9/10. RIP Doris Roberts. You were wonderful in ELR.

reply

last one, off the top of my head - could be wrong there

A good anthology is Southbound by the way, if you haven't checked that one out

reply

No. Never heard of it. Good, huh?

X-Men: Apocalypse 8/10. TMNT: Out of the Shadows 9/10. RIP Doris Roberts. You were wonderful in ELR.

reply

I really enjoyed Tales of Halloween for what it was - a sort of silly low-budget ode to Creepshow. Did you see that one or All Hallows Eve?

This was is even more enjoyable. I even put Southbound above VHS 2. Hmmm - maybe that isn't much of an endorsement!?

Anyways - I'd even say I might like it better than Trick R Treat. This is a very good anthology IMO that has a perfect wraparound

reply

I'll have to see about checking them out.

X-Men: Apocalypse 8/10. TMNT: Out of the Shadows 9/10. RIP Doris Roberts. You were wonderful in ELR.

reply

get a chance to check any of them out yet?

By the way, it is my guilty pleasure, but Scream the TV series isnt half bad if you can take mediocre to bad acting - the 2nd season just ended and it had a killer reveal that was really good - probably the best one since Scream 2 (not sure if you got into any of those movies)

reply

I haven't yet. I'll probably wait until close to Halloween. I know you'll be decorating in like a week, but I wait a bit. Lol. I've seen parts of Scream and Scream 2. I'll have to give them a more thorough watch one day.

X-Men: Apocalypse 8/10. TMNT: Out of the Shadows 9/10. RIP Doris Roberts. You were wonderful in ELR.

reply

i love the Scream the TV series but i haven't started season 2 yet. definitely one of my favorite shows

i wish a new Scream movie would be made. the Scream series of movies are some of the best horror movies ever in my opinion

reply

OH DANG - well, I feel more confidant in my straight sexuality now - I am glad to say that I cannot recognize Grade D or Grade A celebrity packages

Perhaps Kevin Bacon is now a Grade B celebrity and is no longer mainstream, but, regardless, I wouldn't know what his dong looks like!

Take that homosexual Baconators!

reply

Was that what Kurt's avatar was?

RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Matt Roberts. You were great.

reply

i didn't go back to verify the Baconator's package

mmmm, I want some Wendy's now.

reply

I worked there in my youth. Maybe you wouldn't, if you know what I do.

RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Matt Roberts. You were great.

reply

The same can be said for myself and Burger King - Arby's is the only fast food place (at least the one I worked at) that was legit clean and everything was fresh (meaning not sitting out) / well taken care of.

The best food service job I had was working for a mom and pop pizzeria - everything fresh, all the time - great coworkers, great food - better pay for a teenager overall

THE best paying job as a kid was my maintenance / janitorial job at my old highschool during summer college break

reply

So, do you eat at Burger King knowing what it's like?

RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Matt Roberts. You were great.

reply

not at the one after I started working there - ALTHOUGH - I do know if you got a whopper with just cheese, bacon ketchup, mustard, right at 11 a.m. when lunch started - you were safe.

It was when you got into the veggies (lettuce, tomato) and mayo that you were in trouble.

The takeaways here: If you only had to grab it from the freezer or it was a condiment that didn't require refrigeration, you were fine. The bacon and cheese comes straight from the freezer come 10am (at least it did while I was there).

reply

Where I worked, we used burnt hamburger meat for the chili.

reply

yeah it had to do with horror. thought it was funny

A very good read.

reply

I was going to shell out for the books, but once I discovered the audio, I sat back with a brew - easier on the eyes too - I've gotten really picky with what I will really read - I've been spending more time on historical non-fiction collections

reply

It's a excellent read though, Dr. Not even overly expensive. At least mine wasn't.

RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Matt Roberts. You were great.

reply

I may just have to print out the ebook some time - what I saw on Amazon was not what I really want to spend

reply

Do whatever you feel confident in spending, my friend.

Movie Theater: Young Frankenstein 10/10. RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time.

reply

reading the original right now - WOW - so much more fleshed out - love the Celtic backstory, and a nod to Michael's great grandfather having snapped on Halloween - gives some depth while still leaving a lot to the imagination

moving on to Halloween II Ebook over the weekend

reply

I never read the first book. Enjoy the second, however. It's great.

It is worth it - it feels like there is a lot more mysticism - and - it almost feels like the creators of H5 took some of the ancient evil themes from the book and featured it by introducing Thorn in 5.

reply

If I come across it, I'd definitely buy it.
