That Bennett Tramer was TOO coincidental

It's one thing to have a similar mask...but to be wearing overalls...no.

reply

The mask had blonde hair though.

reply

You mean coveralls, not overalls.

reply

OK...coveralls. That was too much. And I said similar mask even though it had blond hair. But the overalls thing I just realized...

reply

Way too coincidental. Nearly ruined the whole movie for me.

Don't call it a comeback. I've been here for years.

reply

Probably Tramer got the inspiration for his costume when he saw Myers lurking the High school that afternoon...

He did have a striped shirt underneath it which stood out where Michael didn't. It was obvious to the audience but not to the characters. The whole point of it was to show that anyone could've been Michael. Plus, why would Michael be holding a bag (presumably of candy)?

It was a dumb fake out that the audience didn't buy for a minute. And why wouldn't he have a similar outfit? The mask was stolen from a hardware store (which is odd if you think about it) so it wasn't exactly unique, it was mass produced. What was he supposed to wear with it? Suit and tie? Blue Jeans and a shirt? No. Then they'd know it wasn't Michael and the scene would be ruined. It was a set piece, plain and simple. Fake death, sneak in a familiar name from the first film and a big explosion/foreshadowing of Michael's own fiery death in the end. Plus IDing the body dragged the movie time further instead of cutting to the chase.

So it served a purpose as it was. Being Ben Tramer (a good TV show title) was the coincidence part. It could've Dick Baxter. Or Paul. We never knew what happened to him. Or some complete stranger. The outfit and mask were on purpose.

"He came home." - Dr. Sam Loomis from the original HalloweeN

reply

Ben Tramer wrote for SAVED BY THE BELL and was a friend of John Carpenter. I said I could "buy" having a similar mask since it was stolen from the hardware store but to also have the mechanic's uniform was too much. Maybe a dark jacket and jeans or dark pants. This made it seem like he was trying to dress like Michael Myers for Halloween when no one knew who he was at that time.

reply

Nah, the scene worked perfectly. Nice continuity from the first one.

Movie Theater: Young Frankenstein 10/10. RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time.

reply

See what I mean? Happens in II. "Perfect." Happens in the original. "Huge coincidence. Nearly ruins the whole movie."

The fact that Ben Tramer just happened to be wearing a similar outfit and mask as Myers was a huge coincidence. Like memayse said, if it was a popular costume then I could see it,but it wasn't. It was reaching.

Don't call it a comeback. I've been here for years.

reply

So you are saying Michael went from tall and mobile to short and tight from parts 1 to 2 and that is "perfect?"

reply

Right? Michael could have been wearing a Darth Vader costume in II and he would say it was perfect.

reply

Lmao!

I've been into horror movies all my life and have never seen someone so obsessed like this

reply

I can understand liking a movie, but to torch one movie over something then turn around and totally excuse something similar that happens in your favorite is crazy.

reply

Torch? I love Halloween. What are you talking about? HAlloween II, I just like more. Nothing wrong with that, is there?

Movie Theater: Young Frankenstein 10/10. RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time.

reply

I get that you like II more, and no, there is nothing wrong with that. All I'm saying, which I've already explained before, is you bring up something that's wrong with the original and act like its terrible and say that it almost ruined the movie for you. Then myself or someone else brings up something that is wrong with II and it's, "no issue there. It was perfect."

Yes, I forgot that. It's absurd when you think about it.

reply

After all of these years I just realized it the other day. Like I said I can give the similar mask a pass because Michael stole it and I'm sure there were others. But the coveralls, come on.

I didn't care for the mistake in the beginning either where he is shot from a ramp and falls in the front of the house and Loomis looking shocked when he got downstairs whereas in the first movie "he knew."

As far as Michael Myers acting more stiff and robotic...I chalk it up in my brain that after he was shot off of the balcony he sort of became a zombie.

They would have been better off not even shooting that balcony scene. I understand that they may have wanted to give a different view, but if its going to result in what ended up on screen why bother? The ramp was ridiculous and had they not reshot the scene the seventh shot would have been eliminated.

I agree on Loomis' reaction too. The "he knew" reaction was much more in line with how he built Myers up in the original.

reply

I do like the movie though. Not as good as the first but far better than the rest and think they should have ended there.

reply

Both reactions are equally awesome.

Yeah...I put in the DVD today and he was wearing a dark blue jacket with collar up and jeans. Or dark blue pants. It looked like the coveralls.

reply

That's the idea, Mem. Or else it wouldn't have fooled Loomis.

reply

My memory fooled me into thinking he was wearing coveralls. So this thread is a mistake.

reply

You could still say that the mask, similarly coloured clothing and eerily similar walk are quite a coincidence......along with the fact that like Myers, Tramer makes no verbal response to this guy running along and hollering at him.

No it was definitely a deputy that was behind the wheel of the deputy's patrol car and explained to his sheriff that he hit the kid because he just came out of nowhere.

Have you watched this film?

Uh, Dock Warlock who played Michael Myers in this film, was the deputy. Are you serious? Have you seen it?

reply

I'm more surprised no one mentioned that the deputy must have been drunk off his a** because he looked to be going nearly 70 mph in a residential area on Halloween night with trick or treaters roaming the sidewalks. "He came outta nowhere..." Yeah, sure officer! lol

Exactly. He was supposed to be similar looking to Myers. Otherwise what was the point of the scene?

I think it was meant to show that Loomis was not thinking clearly as he was willing to fire on someone without the verification of the person's identity as well as to make everyone think that Myers could he dead.

But it was pretty far fetched that he was wearing a similar outfit, walking stiff as a board, and made no attempt to communicate with anyone or even take off the mask.

If I see a sheriff's car stop and the occupants of the car running at me the first thing I'm doing is taking the mask off. I'm not going to turn around and walk away.

No officer of the law would ever allowed a Doctor or anyone to continue to carry a gun after claiming that he shot someone 6 times even if he has a permit...Even officers of the law must turn in their gun after firing their weapon, for further investigation...

As part of their report after action. If they are in the middle of a pursuit of an escaped killer and fire at the fugitive, they are not required to discontinue the pursuit in order to turn in their gun there and then.

reply

Michael was shot 6 times and walked away. You really want to disarm the man who shot him or could you use the back up if you find him? I'd go with back up, personally. Disarm him after Michael's been killed or captured. Common sense.

No officer would allow a doctor or anybody keep a gun after claiming to shoot someone, good or bad...

Any officer of the law in real life would have taken no chances of letting a man with a loaded gun that just yelled out loud ''I shot him 6 times & he walked away'', any officer for their own safety would had taken the gun away from Loomis & placed him in back of the vehicle & they both would have headed back to the location of the shooting for further investigation & wait for back-up...

Imagine you're Sheriff Brackett, you have been up half the night crawling thru bushes, but yet no sighting of this so called Micheal Myers, all you know about him is what his Doctor keeps ranting about that he ain't human or ain't a man...

And then Doctor orders you to drive somewhere else & later he runs back to you with a gun in his hand & tells you that he shot six times & walk away...And you would still let him keep his gun?
