Anyone like this BETTER than part 1 ???

I did. I loved the hospital setting-- not in a realistic way though....it was like in it's own universe. LOL.
I just liked the concise setting and how it continued the "night" . Very well done. Tense atmosphere !

No.

It was conceived as a not quite as good continuation of the original movie and the resulting film didn't even meet those expectations exactly.

I don't think it is a better film, but I do enjoy it more, for a combination of reasons:

tweaking of score to synth
better use of score
better atmosphere, sense of dread - now we already know he is out there, but where? And am I next? Great hospital setting - can you imagine being one of the workers who has to tend to Laurie Strode with all that is going on, and they haven't caught him yet? I think I might be fine with a relative dying or getting sick, if you know what I mean. To hell with that job!

I do prefer it to the original slightly. A superb continuation.

Anyone like this BETTER than the first thread he made on this just a few days ago?

reply

Ha! No I preferred the original thread. The sequel thread seems kind of pointless.

American Horror Story Season 6: Donald Trump

Maybe he was forced to write it so he got drunk first.

Don't call it a comeback. I've been here for years.

Haha. Did the same guy really make the same thread a couple days ago?

Really? You posted in the thread. 3 times. Maybe try cutting back on the Mary Jane.

reply

This thread wasn't as good as the original thread he made. It's not as well written and the characters aren't as interesting.

I enjoy this one tremendously! It's certainly one of the best horror sequels ever made. It's a must watch every October for me! I love the atmosphere, settings, Michael FPV shots and the constant sense of dread.

reply

Totally, as Lynda would say, Fox. Did you enjoy the new X-Files episodes they showed earlier in the year?

Someone out there thinks Halloween 3 is the best of the series !

Sure. There's even a guy on these very boards, Shango, that thinks Resurrection is the best one!!

Carpenter's Halloween-78' is a scare classic, however I find I have to be more in the mood to watch it over this faster paced and grisly sequel. I agree with what you have said and I came to H2 before I saw the original on tv.

I probably like it equally as much.

For as long as I can remember, I always watch the first 2 Halloween's back to back. I never just watch Halloween and not watch part 2.

I like the score more. The kills are better and there's more of them. Great atmosphere. Great setting. Easily one of the best horror sequels made, if not the best. I'm surprised how many people seem to like part 4 more than 2 though. Part 4 is good but nowhere near as good as 2 in my opinion.

reply

I never see anyone say they like 4 more. II is always thought of as better. Maybe a few drunkards.

Check out the gigantic thread for the Halloween box-set on blu-ray.com. I can't believe the hate for 2 and the love for 4 in that thread.

I pretty much only count 1,2, and H20 as the best and genuine Halloween films. Notwithstanding 3, but that is not a Myers outing. 4 was average and while there were some ok scare sequences, it was uneven and a mixed bag overall. They didn't even film 4 in the scope ratio and I think this just expressed contempt for the wide screen cinematography and atmosphere the first 2 Halloweens utilized so well. It was for a cash grab only and Myers was burnt to a crisp in the end shot of 2. 5 & 6 were just crud.

As for Zombie's vicious remake, I don't warm to it, yet I loved his brutal and atmospheric Halloween 2 sequel.

Isn't that the problem of comparing?? If they did not add the gore and kills, then would it be considered better than Part 1. Apples & oranges.

I don't think so; but then again the overall feel and atmosphere of a horror film can still work in it's favor. Better is a subjective term anyway. It is what one finds more enjoyable or easier to watch. While there had been earlier gore films in the 60's and 70's, slashers really started to become a part of pop film culture after Halloween. The kills\gore and scares in these films were the main raison d'être for them to exist.

From a mean spirited\sadistic pov, H2 upped the ante in the violence department and it also made the film creepy and scary at the same time. It delivered on both counts. It was also direct continuation of the evenings events depicted in the first film. The same dop worked on it, the same actors were in it and Carpenter still had his hand in the honey pot over the production, story and music score. It wasn't a failure by any means and what did people want to see, the same film as the first? That one was already etched in cinema history by the time the second one was released. A slasher is a slasher and it works or it doesn't. To my mind H2 did.

Oh my..that is one inarticulate sentence for any fraction of a brain. Presents an appalling proposition, in any case.

What? That's good English. Maybe a comma after brain.

If that's good English in your eyes I think we should all rejoice in the fact that you aren't an English teacher.
