It's Southern Cal. Windows have to be small so burglars can't just break them and climb in. Small windows, less breaking and entering. Sadly, that's what you have to contend with everywhere. Esp. California.

You know, the best part about looking at the location pictures is that the Elrod house has a door left open! And then, there is a cat staring back at you (I think, right!?)

It might've clearly not been Illinois like the movie states, but man the Pasadena and South Cal filming locations for this and the original were perfect. Beautiful locations that provided great atmosphere.
