Tarzan Parallel

In the books by Edgar Rice Burroughs about Tarzan of the Apes, Tarzan first learns ape language. His first human contact is with a French man who teaches him French. After learning French, he finally meets English people, so English becomes his third spoken language.

Director JJ Annaud provides a commentary on the QFF DVD, and his French is certainly better than his English. His understanding of the caveman language is almost as unique as Tarzan's understanding of the ape language -- after all, the whole caveman language was created for the movie. It's as though Tarzan returned to Africa with a movie camera and came back to tell us a story about the apes.
