Fantastic Film

I have to say it felt refreshing watching a sweet film like this after all the depressing, nihilistic stuff I usually watch, lol.

I was struck by how mature some of the characters were, such as Madeleine, Gordon's 10 yr. old (!!) sister, and Steve. So many others in the film -- the older kids and even the adults, all seemed nigh-incompetent in comparison. And I caught the subtle hints that Steve was gay as well, such as how he stares intently into Gordon's eyes for a few seconds after Gordon asks him has he ever been in love, how he held Gordon's hands when stirring the stuff in the bowl, and how he mentioned he spends "hours and hours making [him] lovely little treats" or something like that, lol.

I've seen others express disdain for Dorothy, but I didn't see her do much wrong. She didn't find herself reciprocating Gordon's fancying for her, but Susan apparently already had a crush on him, so she simply concocted a scheme to eventually get Gordon to realize that there was someone perfect for him right there in his face all along. This is what Susan meant when she said of Dorothy that she was "a good sport." I did enjoy the fact that Gordon got over his mega-crush on Dorothy and embraced Susan. Susan is the girl I would've went for from the get-go, personally, lol.

All in all, this was a fun film to watch. I can definitely see myself viewing it again multiple times.
