How long were they on the Turkish shore...

...before being withdrawn? I saw this movie some years ago and seemed like the British and allies had set up something of an encampment after landing in Turkey. Note: This movie will be on the Military Channel in the US tonight.

They originally landed in April, this battle (Battle of the Nek) occurred on August 7, and they were evacuated in December and early January.

reply

They were there for just over 8 months total.
This film begins way after 25th April when the initial landings took place. that's why they already have a camp at Anzac Cove when the characters in the film get there.

reply

Yes, the Battle of the Nek occurred roughly half way through the Gallipoli Campaign.🐭

Some fresh troops were added over the course of the campaign, especially for the Allied August offensive depicted in the movie. However, once there, troops were rarely rotated out for any relief. Death, wounding, disease, and shell shock (or capture by the Turks) were the only ways out. Soldiers who experienced both the Western Front in France and Gallipoli often thought the latter was the more stressful place to be.
