Nothing like a battle in Turkey set to 80's synthesizer music!

Talk about cheesy....

That music just didn't belong. Other than that I enjoyed the movie...But again when Archie and Frank raced to the pyramid...not for me

reply

I agree -- the music just didn't fit the period setting. Wasn't the music done by Jarre? Who frequently works with Peter Weir and usually does a great job, such as in Year of Living Dangerously

reply

Absolutely agree with you...why I gave this film a 9 instead of a 10. Stayed up for another Wier film (the one about the school girls coming up missing) and THAT TOO is infected somewhat with the same synth soundtrack.

Ugh!

Great director and great films otherwise. Cheers!

reply

It was different and it was awesome!

reply

I felt it was fitting and powerful sounding- especially when frank takes off for general gardner. I enjoyed it.

reply

It was different I thought it was ok
I also like the synth music when they race at the beginning

reply

I agree that the music damages the movie. The segments set to classical music worked so much better. Still an excellent film though.

reply

It was '70s synth music. For the record.

reply

It was Jean Michel Jarre.

I watched this on TV for the first time a few months ago and I swear to God I thought my wife's cell phone was going off or something when they started playing that music. It was so incongruous to the movie and the rest of the music.

Otherwise a great movie.

Son of Maurice.

reply

I kept expecting space ships to land on the battle field, or something to happen that would justify the techno sounding synthesizer music.

reply

It reminded me of Chariots of Fire, a story about the 1924 Olympics set to 80s synthesizer music.

I guess in years to come, people will complain about The Great Gatsby, a movie about 1920s New York set to 2010s rap music.

reply

I agree Heywood, totally loved the music and thought it fitted the film well.
Yeah sure this film is primarily about war, but it's also about sprinting/sprinters, and for me at least that music works well when it used.

Correct. The OP has lost the plot somewhere, as the battle scenes aren't scored to excerpts from Oxygène; it's the running scenes and it works brilliantly. 🐭

reply

That was the trend in the 1980s.

The same with"Chariots of Fire".

reply

It is strange but it works mainly because the music is now so familiar.

Its that man again!!
