Compared to what we've seen the last 20 years, the battle scenes are comical. Extras clumsily throwing themselves to the ground, a dead soldier moving his elbow, really few gibs and finally Jean Michel Jarre's synth score. Not that my ideals are Cross Of Iron-gore, and I do like Peter Weir's movies, but please...

I still like the film but the synth score is out of place.

I don't think it was ever intended as a war film, we don't get to see much in the way of combat at all. It is more about the friendship. I don't like the synth score though.
