Ummm...no, silly person.
Many films, don't even take 10 minutes to assess whether they are excrement or not. For those who are not challenged, the poop can be smelled within minutes.
And no again, homeboy...this film is shyte. Its appeal is mainly to B-movie fans, and they are the least discriminating sorts of fans anywhere. They'll applaud anything, just so long as the budget is low, and the acting is bad.
People forget what else was released around that same time. This was the 80's, after all, and there were many excellent and highly polished visual extravaganza's around that same period. But this film, has got the most excruciatingly dated execution in all areas of production, yet it's not a 50's, 60's, or even 70's film...it's just made like one.
Hard to believe a film like Aliens is literally only 5 years removed from this one. Actually, less than 5 years, when you consider when they started production. More like 4 years. But it looks decades different. Which is both funny and weird, considering Buttboy Cameron was the production designer on GOT.
Aliens, by comparison, holds up by even today's standards, which is saying a lot for a film which is over 30 years old. The effects, miniatures, sets, score, nearly everything holds up either fairly well, or extremely well. Galaxy of Terror is on the other end of the spectrum. From the comically cheesy and overly dramatic music which is spoon-feeding emotional cues to the viewer (on a nearly second-to-second basis, which was weird), to the lighting, sets, editing, and overall corny acting, makes it look and feel like a film much older than it is. You almost expect characters with names like Captain Space Ranger.
Also, its insistence on borrowing shamelessly from the original Alien is so blatant that even a child can notice it. From the first several seconds, onward.
It's fun to watch, but in that so-bad-its-good way.
I couldn't even remotely call it a "dam good B Sci-fi horror". It's a tremendously bad film, when compared to other films of the era, and a mediocre film when compared to other B Sci-fi's. Why it is so beloved, is obvious. But that certainly doesn't make it a great film.
