that Dark undertone in kids' films

They just don't make them like these anymore. like, after the 80s disney era, they all got more lighthearted and "nice".

Movies like All dogs go to heaven, american tale, Brave little toaster, secret of NIMH, and fox and the hound are all in that "darker" category. Movies like Ice age, Bolt, and Madagascar are good, but the characters are less developed, silly and you don't feel for them as much in the story line. And those dumb sequels. Can't stand them.

why did they stop making kids movies dark? I watched the older ones as a child and grew up just fine. I still watch them today!

It's like production companies are afraid to offend kids today so they make them unintelligent and goofy.

Some kids films still have some dark material in them, but yeah, nothing like what was seen in the 80s-- let alone even earlier, with movies like Pinocchio!

Those movies frightened me as a kid, but I also found them oddly compelling. Kids are tougher than people give them credit for being.

The 1999 live action Pinocchio has dark themes, it is based on the book.
