I talked with Bess Armstrong

I was in Paris years ago in a small Chinese restaurant and Bess Armstrong and Brooke Adams sat at the table next to me and the persopn I was with. We all struck up a conversation and at one point talked about this movie. The one thing I remember that was funny was when she said that they filmed the winter scene first where she stood up for herself and through the rest of the movie she had to take all the abuse. She wasn't real thrilled about that.

P.S., another also time I met Rita Moreno. She's a real sweetheart.

Did you have the urge to ask Bess and Brooke the immortal question...

"Which one of you bitches is my mother?"

reply

I would ask her why she did Jaws 3D?

I wish someone would tell Alan Alda that Beatrice is EXACTLY 365 days older than I am.

Old post, but interesting. I remember Brooke Adams and Bess Armstrong working together in the TV movie Lacy.

I saw an interview with Rita Moreno about a decade after the film was made. While she did credited Alda for getting the honed performances from his actors, she also said Alan wasn't the easiest director to work with, for it was normal for him to shoot fifties to seventy takes per scene.

When Moreno was shooting the line, "I wonder what other people do on their vacation", Alda accepted the first take before Rita mistakenly said, wow, how did I get off so easy? Carol Burnett grabbed Rita by the ribcage for having made the command, and Alda preceded to make Rita shoot it Eighty times.
