Carol Burnett Was the Best Thing in This Movie

Plenty of strong talent assembled here, but I'm still very impressed with Burnett's nearly virtuosic performance as Jack's astute and resilient wife, Kate. Anyone who only knows her through her comedic roles needs to see this one.

There, daddy, do I get a gold star?

Yes, she gave a wonderful performance as Kate. The only other serious role I've seen her in is "Pete & Tillie" and that's worth a watch and a giggle here and there.

Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?

I love Carol but for some reason she and her character annoyed me.

I also didn't care for her hairstyle. Too severe.

Sandy Dennis stole the whole movie.

Dorothy stop that, Mr. Ha Ha`s lookin at you!!

I thought she was fine, but nothing amazing. I liked how she elevated the occasionally clunky dialogue but I'm also glad she told Universal to cancel their Oscar campaign for her as Best Actress, saying her performance was '"Okay, no gem. Certainly not Academy Award caliber. The whole Oscar thing can get so silly with everyone and their uncle taking out ads. I don't want to be a part of it - unless I deserve it."

Carol Burnett is a total class act. Love her to pieces. :-)

Carol's character was my second favorite. Cause my heart belongs to Sandy!

Carol's character always seemed like she was riding the cotton pony.

Carol IRL deserved a better written character, she was as whiny and nagging as Debra Barone. Rita Moreno was the more appealing of wives.

I love Carol though, going to see her in concert tomorrow. I have to think of a question to ask her. She is a very cool lady.

Yep, she made this film.
