Pretentious, sickeningly empty, predictable cr*p

And those were it's GOOD qualities.

Seriously, how can anyone actually LIKE this drooling, high-school level dreck? Jesus, I've read better scripts in the toilets Julian's Billiard Academy.

Alda, the king of pretentiousness, drags down a cast of fine actors, who must have been drugged and bound to do this junk, into a morass of overly sentimental yet mysteriously un-feeling pile of dung.

I didn't like it.

Okay, defend this crime against art.

No you haven't.

This is a film about friendship. It takes dramatic and funny moments of everyday adults who are entering or deep within middle age, and looks at the social challenges that confront their friendship.

It's not for everyone, but films like this used to be made with great frequency, although not as skillfully as Alda has done here.

I AGREE...... YET ... I watch this every Fall... ?????... dud...

One of the best movies about marriage and friendship and divorce ever made.
It was written by Alan Alda, who is an actor who strives to write what he knows. He doesn't just imagine how he thinks marriage might be!

And only a person who has been married to the same person a long time should comment on this movie.

I have been married 43 years and saw this movie long ago in 1981. And I recognized much of my own marriage in this movie, especially Jack and kate.

So to the OP, good grief grow up. There is no doubt in my mind if you are watching this for the first time, you are young.

And "you know nothing"...

I bet your idea of a great movie is Dude Where's My Car.

Pretentious, because one of them is a (struggling - Sandy Dennis) artist? Or, because two of them are professionals - an attorney, and a dentist?

Or, because they drank wine and cheese? Or, because they spoke English properly?

Your speed is probably "Weekend at Bernie's". This film was very entertaining, well-written, and had a fine cast. I wish I could afford four long and out-of-town weekends per year, and had longtime friends with whom to share them.

I haven't seen The Four Seasons in many years. I check Turner Classic Movies frequently to see if it's going to be shown on television, and check for the DVD at stores that carry older movie, and have yet to find it.

I'd love to see the movie again, as I remember it was one I enjoyed. Does anyone know where I could find the movie on DVD?

reply

It's on HBO on Demand. It's held up really well.

As for the OP, wiser to attack the post rather than defend the movie. I'm so bored with the pseudo intellectual cynics that have taken over this site.

Twenty years ago it was the best site on the web. Now it's garbage.

Fine...but I notice you didn't follow up with a movie you find superior, so now's your chance (if you're still following this thread).

Name a film that follows the friendship and foibles of a group of adult humans OVER the age of 30. No pets, no robots/tech, no imaginary friends come to life, no inanimate objects that speak only to the lead character.
