The character was named "Jackie Burke" in the book and she was a white woman with blond hair. Tarantino changed the race of the main character and renamed her "Brown" as a tribute to Grier's film "Foxy Brown."
I saw Pam on a talk show when QT was writing JB for her. It took him awhile to do, she was afraid he wouldn't finish it.
