10:13?

In NYPD code, what is a 10:13? It seems to be what's used to describe every crime in the film. Does anyone know?

10-13 is the NYPD's code for an officer needs assistance. When a NYC Cop is calling a 10-13, he is in some serious trouble.

Interesting- a signal 10-1 in the NYPD means "Call your command"

It isn't NYPD code, it's radio or CB code that would have been used by any dispatch (fire, ambulence, trucker). kinda like 10-4 good buddy and as far as I know it's not necessarily Penal Code that includes stuff like 187. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten-code

Sounds like a "Signal One" in the Force I was in. Police in serious trouble.

A 10-13 is the radio code signal for "Police Officer Needs Assistance" It is the highest-priority call and trumps all other radio runs. It means a police officer's life is in grave and immediate danger and immediate help is needed. When cops get a 10-13, they drop everything- everything- and rush to assist the officer in trouble. It's an all-units callout- every sector car available will respond forthwith- even units from adjoining precincts on the same radio band will jump in and cross precinct boundaries to help a fellow officer in distress.

Isn't it quicker to say "HELP!!" than "Ten-thirteen"?
