Did anyone reading this see For Your Eyes Only in 1981?

Did anyone reading this actually see For Your Eyes Only at the cinema in Britain in 1981? The reason I ask is that I'm trying to remember the title of the short film I saw with it at the cinema in the UK when it was originally released in 1981. It was only about 30 minutes long. It featured Edward Hardwicke as a man on the run from some gunmen, and was set in Ireland, but I can't remember the title. It's not listed on his IMDB entry.

Can anyone help me?

Many thanks,

Paul.

There is a short film called Vengeance which sounds like it but the IMDB release date is 1984.

Maybe there was a re-release of FYEO, the IMDB date is wrong, or perhaps you are misremembering which feature it supported.

Sounds a damned sight better anyway than the dismal Global-Queensway travelogues which we usually suffered through at the time.

John, thanks! You're a genius! You've not only solved the mystery but you've jogged my memory! It wasn't FYEO I saw it with. It was Michael Radford's version of 1984, released at the end of that year. For years I've been confusing myself by thinking that I saw Vengeance with FYEO in 1981 when I actually saw it with 1984 in 1984! And if it hadn't been for you I would never have realised this!

It just goes to show how your memory plays tricks.

I don't suppose you know where I could see Vengeance again, do you?

Many thanks again,

Paul Murphy

I saw it in 81, but in America. My brother and I went with my grandmother, which was probably a mistake (not her kind of film). I can't remember why she came along, as my was old enough to drive us there and it was a PG film (I was a teenager, too). I suppose she was just spending time with us. I don't think she cared much for it, thoguh she never remarked on it.

I saw it in a UK cinema, on a double bill with Moonraker. Two hours of dazzling bangs and flashes then two hours of, "Eee keeled ma paironce".

I also saw it released on a double bill with Moonraker in 1981. I was nine years old at the time and went with a friend from school. I remember everyone laughing when Q said 'He's attempting re-entry sir' and not understanding what was funny about it!

'Monsters? We're British!'

I saw it twice (also here in America)! I was a kid, but loved it!

This played all summer as a matinee in my small Canadian town. I was 16 and working at the local Dairy Queen. I remember going several times on my off days. I think that is what makes this one of my favourite Bonds.
