Miscast

I love Walter Matthau, but who can believe him as a Supreme Court justice? And Jill Clayburgh is a shade too young, even though she's supposed to be 41 years old (she was 37 when the film was released and likely 36 when it was made and looks in her mid-30s). Someone like Burt Lancaster likely would have been better, though I can live with Clayburgh.

She had a kind of stately appearance and demeanor about her. She carried herself off as a stateswoman, even though in this film she's a judge and not a politician she carries that bearing of "Washington-ness" about her.

I think she was right for the role.
