Yigael’s Wall.

Yigael’s Wall, which makes its first appearance in “Damien: Omen II” is one of the more curious & creepy things in all of “The Omen” trilogy. At the same time it makes no sense, I mean if you learn the story behind it. You’ll find it’s a definite head scratcher for sure.

Yigael as a character was never shown but only referenced throughout the series. He’s mainly talked about because of the wall he created. He was a monk that lived in Megiddo in the 13th century.

The story goes on to say that in that time when he lived, Satan came to him & through glimpses of the future he revealed to Yigael visions of the coming Anti Christ, Damien Thorn & his rise to power in our time. So Yigael knew what Damien not only was but he knew what he would look like at each stage of his life. These visions that Satan sent him drove him insane & soon afterwards he created his famous wall by depicting the future Anti Christ as a beast with the face of a man but a head of snakes a la Medusa.

For information purposes Yigael’s wall contains the following paintings.

1: First image is of a jackal engulfed in flames signifying the Anti Christ’s birth via a jackal as Damien’s was.

2: 2nd was Damien as a child as he appeared in “The Omen”

3: 3rd as a teen/young man as he appeared in “The Omen 2”

4: Last but not least the final image is that of Damien as a grown man (Sam Neil?) & what’s interesting is the final image was supposedly to depict Damien’s “defeat” by Christ in our time.

I’m questioning the wisdom of Satan in actually giving anyone that kind of knowledge of future events, no matter how long ago it might’ve been, because after all Yigael, went on to paint the visions he saw on a wall that endured & still existed in “The Omen” timelines. Excuse me but wouldn’t that be a threat to both Satan’s plans & the survival of the Antichrist to have such a object exist?

The following I’ll submit for your consideration::

1: Carl Bugenhagen, the archeologist who discovered & dug up the wall is able to convince his understandably skeptical associate Michael Morgan that Damien is the Antichrist, by showing him the image of a now teenaged Damien Thorn right in front of him on the wall. Then Satan causes a cave in of the excavation site that buries & kills both men. Not to worry because as we all know the wall is found & dug up yet again.

2: The reporter Joan Hart who was one of the few people that saw Yigael’s Wall arrives in Chicago to interview Richard Thorn for an article. She damn near sh!ts herself when she sees Damien walking around in front of her after remembering seeing his image on the wall. Naturally she dies a horrible death.

3: Richard Thorn, Robert Thorn’s brother & Damien’s uncle & legal guardian receives a visit from one Dr. Charles Warren, curator of the Thorn Museum, who has found ” Bugenhagen’s Box” which contained the Seven Daggers of Megiddo, the only weapons able to kill Damien, along with a letter by Bugenhagen explaining that Damien is the Antichrist, & also mentions his image on the wall.

After people around him begin to drop like flies, & the sudden death of his beloved son Mark, Damien’s so called adopted “brother”, Richard along with a hysterical Dr. Warren is taken to the train station where Yigael's Wall is being stored in a cargo carrier. There he sees all the proof he needs by viewing his nephew’s likeness right there in front of him on Yigael’s Wall. Like Robert before him, he seeks to destroy Damien but fails after being betrayed by his own wife, who not only knew who & what Damien was but also a secret disciple of his.

You see my point? So spilling the beans to Yigael who then created a record of what he was told HAS presented some problems for Ol’ Scratch who then had to cover Damien’s ass by getting rid of everyone who happened to find out.

Now no one HAD to know of course but the devil, genius that he is HAD to entertain himself by messing with Yigael’s head by blabbing away. Hey! Why keep a good thing to yourself ? Loose lips sink ships, that kind of thing.

Last but not least, let’s talk about the final image which shows “a adult Damien that is eventually defeated”

HUH?!! WHA?!! You got me with that one. That’s “fall off your chair” stupid & counterproductive. Now “WHY WOULD HE GO ON & DO THAT FOR?”

Now you’re telling me with all the prophecies & such regarding the Antichrist & the end times, with all the planning & maneuvering & waiting, expectations & biding your time for that day to arrive eventually, you’re telling me that you “KNEW’” what the outcome would be? That your “son” the Antichrist was going to fail & be defeated? Not only that but you revealed this to some poor guy who put painted this for the world to see?

That’s “Are you f’ing kidding me? stupid”. This is “The King of pride” we’re talking about.

Satan has always been, in human terms, "smug", "cocky" and "over-confident" in his dealings with mortal beings and even God, his superior who always defeats him and sees him more as a (cough) necessary evil.

Maybe Satan saw the future and was bragging about his future version of the anti-Jesus, and wanted Yigael, a lowly painter down on Earth, to see all of this and record the visions Satan sent him about his future son, to challenge any who sought to destroy evil to seek him out and destroy him, in a boasting fit that they could never do it. Satan certainly finished off those who even saw the paintings, sooner or later.

I do tend to think that maybe Satan saw that he went too far in portraying the downfall of his son, because in attempting to kill Richard Thorn by sending the other train car barrelling at high speed into the one he was in, he did succeed in destroying Yigael's Wall, thus obliterating all evidence of what a future Damien would look like. It fell over in the crash, but probably crumbled to dust in the violent impact. At least then, Satan's moment of going too far (as such) was rectified.

That's how I see it, anyway.

It’s a possibility Foebane72, that may very well be the case although it still would be a huge waste of time & effort on his part in my opinion. This would only serve to cause him to lose credibility which is the last thing he should want.

It's a mcguffin to get to the climax. Richard couldn't just go peering through Damien's hair.
