I just saw the fill this weekend, and can not get that song out of my heads....

Come on, that song is the only reason this movie is worth watching!! My and my friends always get good laughs out of seeing her amazing Broadway debut performance"... you can't beat better songwriting than lyrics that say, "We don't need an energy crisis, my professional advice is..." LOL

And then hearing her croak out "I want hearts... not diamonds!" LMAO, it gets better! Yes, even better than the camp scene where Lauren puts Maureen in her place after she mishandled her fan letters!! This movie was made for gay men, I can't see anyone else who would enjoy this!!

That song was so god-awful it never occurred to me to see it in a humorous light, but thanks for the different perspective!

I love that song, but I'd also love to hear it performed by a stronger singer than Lauren Bacall. That smoker's voice works well for dialogue, but not for singing.

Was that a real musical they were putting on, or was it all composed for the film?

I just heard the song on the SCREAMQUEENZ podcast where this film was featured/discussed.

I nearly croak myself.

Priceless!

;)

Nope. It wasn't a real musical, but the songs were written by people who have written successful "real" musicals.

Composed by Marvin Hamlisch (THE WAY WE WERE, A CHORUS LINE) with lyrics by Sir Tim Rice (EVITA, THE LION KING). All I can say is that 1981 was a good year for drugs.
