Tagline

I don't get the tagline? "Sorry, Your Party is Dead". What does that mean in relation to the film? I could understand if it was set during a birthday party or something but it makes no sense.

reply

Sometimes the people who do the cover art/text haven't even seen the movie and have a vague idea of what it's all about.

"Party" in the tagline is a reference to a person using the telephone.

It does not mean party as in a social gathering.

In the film, the killer made obscene/threatening phone calls to his victims.

"Sorry, Your Party Is Dead" is meant to be imitative of something that a telephone operator might say.

For example, years ago, when placing a phone call, the operator might tell the individual making the call, "Your party is on the line", "Your party does not answer", etc..

"Your party" simply meant the other person that one was calling (or attempting to call).

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. That makes sense now. I've never heard that expression before.

You're probably not old enough to remember party *lines.* When I was a kid, people shared phone lines. It was fun to eavesdrop . . .

Then there's a restaurant "party," as in party of four, etc. We like to give the name "Donner; and we're *very* hungry."

Yeah.
