Accents

I have to say that I'm more than a bit surprised that I don't see any threads here ripping Sutherland's and Nelligan's accents.

Maybe it's because they're Canadian.

reply

Sutherland lived in England for a number of years.

I'm not really complaining, though. I thought that they were fine. It's just usual for the English here to rip on non-English doing their accents.

reply

Their accents were fine.. Did you expect them to speak like Americans? Ever been to the east coast of Canada? For those two actors to speak with a Brit accent would be peanuts. Much easier than for them to speak 'English', say in a southern drawl.

reply

Yeah, read my post just above. I said that they were fine.

Shouldn't Sutherland have sounded like a German trying to approximate a very good British accent? Well, in the book, it said that his English was so good and "standard" that no one would guess he was a foreigner.

See, being a GERMAN SPY and all means that having even the slightest German accent would ruin his chances of infiltrating in Britain.
