Anyone else...?

Rooting for Sutherland in this film? I'm by no means a Nazi sympathizer or what have you but he was by far the most interesting character here. And the underdog throughout most of the film as well. Nelligan and her husband were both about as boring as a dog's ass. Annoying, even.

Me too. Rooting for Sutherland. But, I am a big Sutherland fan. Root for him in ALL of his movies. And he makes and EXCELLENT bad guy!

Not at all. He was vey cold hearted. Sutherland's character had to get his comuppance. Having his character fall in love with Kate Nelligen made the story interesting though. This was a good movie that never let go of my attention.

You might like this also. I saw it last week. It has the look and feel of a Hitchcock film.

See comments on my thread about the possible influence of "The 39 Steps" on this film.

There are so many versions of The 39 Steps, which is the best or one you'd recommend?

Yes I was rooting for Sutherland too. This is one of those cases where the villain in a film upstages everyone else because he or she is so interesting and charismatic. I was rooting for him. I wanted him to succeed because everyone was against him. I had a similar reaction to Dial M for murder where Ray Milland was too intelligent to fail. I started to resent the protagonists in that film a little because they were standing in his way. I feel disappointed when the payoff of these kinds of films consist of the villain meeting his or her doom and the audience is supposed to cheer for the scheming protagonist(s).

Haha, I feel the same way too!

Nah.

Killing his landlady pretty much precluded any I-like-Sutherland-therefore-I-will-root-for-Faber sentiments for me.

My mom and I were rooting for him as the main protagonist definitely. It's similar to that Michael Douglas film, A Perfect Murder which is a remake of the Hitchcock film Dial M for Murder with Ray Milland. In both of those films I was rooting for Douglas and Milland to get away with it.
