What do you think of them? Did Boorman ever explain this interesting artistic choice?
To me they set the movie apart from all the other sword and sorcery movies. Not exactly natural but they give the film more of a folk fantasy feel.

I agree. There is something unique and special about the atmosphere. In addition to the green lights, they chose to use some kind of hazy filter on every shot to soften the images. Hard to put my finger on why it's special. I don't think I've seen anything like it since.

shareIt certainly is something special with lots of unique things happening in it. The amalgamation of Arthurian legends, the cinematography, early Liam Neeson and Gabriel Byrne, Wagner's "Sigfreid's Funeral" playing throughout, the gritty and grimy medieval life, the portrayal of magic and mysticism, Merlin's philosophies. Lots to appreciate.
