Robbery scene should have been kept

The deleted opening scene which can be viewed in the special edition DVD, depicting Snake robbing a federal bank and splitting the money with his accomplice, shouldn't have been deleted. It was a good introduction to the character and really set up what kind of person he is. In the final cut, he just kind of shows up and it feels like we missed something. The robbery opening should have been retained, anyone agree?

I think it should have been edited throughout the film as flashbacks, to give a greater depth to Snake's character.

Yeah it would have been a brilliant opening for the film (making it even better as a whole).

Agreed, it's too good of a scene to be left out of the film.

It (the filming) was not well executed.
It added to Snake's mystique, that we did not see the robbery.
JC was right to cut it!

It adds to the character; but, it kind of lays there for much of the sequence. It doesn't grab your attention right away, like the theatrical opening. I think it worked better on the page, as it did in the novelization, where you get inside Snake's head. The novel did a lot to expand Snake as a character and I read it first, before seeing the film. I was disappointed that it wasn't there; but, after finally seeing it, i can see why it was cut. it really slows the pace down, when the film needs to be moving, to drive home the time crunch.

Fortunately, Ah keep mah feathers numbered for just such an emergency!

The robbery scene is very good - would like to see an alternative version with it included at the beginning. Would have to be pre-title though as otherwise could effect the film's pacing and timeline.

It would have established Snake as a weak and defeated character

I always thought that Snake's capture by the USPF alredy did that, and that the events of "EFNY" showed Snake's redemption from defeat.
