Remake or Sequel?

Personally, I would go the Mad Max: Fury Road route.
Be cool if Kurt could do it but he doesn't have to.

If it was more of a sequel than a reboot and Kurt wasn't in it, who would you choose to play Snake?
And the most important question;
What should his hair and outfit look like?

(Long post warning.)That's a hard question. I'd like to see more Snake adventures, the last comic series was somewhat underwhelming, despite some good covers for the early issues, it meandered a lot, just as it seemed to have hit its stride, they stopped it about three issues later. I thought they might have lost the licence but they're doing a Snake/Jack Burton comic next month, something to look forward to.

To answer your question, a sequel or remake could be equally good, if by the Fury Road route you mean a continuation but perhaps with a different actor, or say a movie set long after LA with an older grizzled Snake, played by Russell, or else set not too long after that movie with an actor who would be the around the same age that Snake/Russell was then, that could work.

I'm in two minds about a much older Snake, although EFNY is my favourite Carpenter/Russell movie, and Old Snake may have some interesting story potential, I can't help but wonder if it might be a bit sad to see the same character revisited after such a long time. (This is kind of how I felt about the old Star Wars characters in TFA.) A lot of the things that make Snake cool from a character angle are things like his anti-authoritarian stance, etc. At the same time, I don't know how well those traits would work when he's twenty-odd years older, but the idea of him not changing as a character wouldn't be realistic, either. I have often wondered what Snake's ultimate fate would be, but in some ways I would prefer if it was never revealed, unless there's a good "Snake's Last Escape" story waiting to be told. Also, there's the question of how much action Kurt Russell could be expected to do, he was still pretty badass in Hateful Eight and F&F 7, and Bone Tomahawk but not surprisingly nothing like Snake in EFNY, 30+ years ago.

Perhaps a story set between NY and LA, the trouble is real world events and technology have badly dated both movies, NY especially (I heard people actually laugh at a recent showing of EFNY when 1997: Now came up on screen). I don't think the Mad Max movies were ever set on a particular timeline. Unless they could just not mention any dates at all, or make it obvious that it's an alternate universe/timeline (like Watchmen or District 9).

I'm cautiously optimistic to hear that Neil Cross is writing a script for an EFNY remake, Luther was suitably, dark, urban and Carpenteresque in some places, I can see him "getting" the world and tone of EFNY, but choice of director, cast, possible studio influence, so many things could sink it, even the choice of score.

Casting wise, for a remake or between NY/LA movie, I'd suggest maybe Luke Evans, he's not some generic Hollywood hero type, plus he's had experience playing both good and bad guys, also he's got the right build for playing Snake, he needs to be fairly lean and fast, not some musclebound action star. He had longish hair in Dracula plus often has stubble/facial hair. Alternatively, Scott Eastwood, he's a rising actor, a close enough age, and strangely appropriate given that Kurt Russell was channelling Clint Eastwood in NY/LA.

Outfit wise, the camo pants and zip top still look iconic, imo, also it might be cool if he got to wear his original jacket a bit more.

Definitely a Fury Road style sequel. Kurt has said he's too old for the role because Snake should be played by someone in their prime. I disagree, I'd like to see a grizzled old Plyssken. But if they want a younger recast I would pick Josh Halloway, if he can lose his southern accent. If you must go younger than that, Sebastian Stan could pull it off well. As for story, set it after New York, no remake, just a new adventure. For his look, long hair, leather jacket, muscle shirt, cargo pants and motorcycle boots. The skinsuit he wore in LA was ridiculous.

I hate remakes. Sequel all the way. I don't see why Kurt Russell couldn't play him again, but if he won't, as long as they recast it with someone worthy of the role I'm ok.

Sequel. Kurt is badass no matter how old he is.

I was a kid when this came out and I saw it in the theater:

My take: no remake

Yah escape from l.a. Was hokey....

But give me a 3rd one with Kurt Russell and any cast from the first two films that wants in.

Just call it "Escape"

I would be happy to give you my money!
