This movie actually scared me.

This is kind of a repost, but I just wanted to say that this movie actually genuinely scared me. I couldn't sleep at night after watching this. The only other movie that has actually scared me is the exorcist and that was when I was like 15 years old (i'm much older now).

If you watch this movie by yourself in the dark I think you will be scared too.

I think all the people that say this movie is absolutely not scary must have been watching this during the day or with a whole bunch of other people that can laugh at the movie.

I hear ya, to this very day (i'm 36) I can't bring mtself to watch this one at night alone. The film makes me afraid to go to the bathroom by myself lol, funny how some things cause us to revert to how we were as children.

If you expect the unexpected doesn't the unexpected then become the expected?

I too am in my 30s, and find this movie scary and entertaining. I've seen many horror films, but this is the only one that still scares me - it has me on the edge of my seat! Thank God, there exists a movie that can actually do that, still.

I'm remember being around 12 the first time I saw this movie. I couldn't sleep for about 2 days. But being a young boy I watched it over & over just to see the nudity. Now I'm grown and and probley more mature I want to watch it again. And Stephen King's It. I'm still kinda scared of clowns.

I snuck and watched this film in 86 at the age of 8 and still can't watch it with the sound up. That guitar riff will stick with you.I might be able to sit through it now but then forget it.It had me afraid to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.LOL

Fred-"Bubba,how much is 5 & 5?"
Bubba-10!
Fred-"Thats also your IQ!"

reply

Hahaha, so true. Just creeps me out even now thinking of that riff.

First saw this movie in 1991 when I was 13 and it scared the absolute c**p out of me. Other than stuff I watched before my teens, that I've not found scary since (silly kids stuff really), nothing I've seen on screen has actually genuinely scared me other than this movie.

I wouldn't exactly say it scares me to watch it now, but it still creeps me out a lot more than any other movie. Forget all this 'Paranormal Activity' hype, this is much better movie about poltergeist/demonic activity.

reply

Did you actually see Paranormal activity?

reply

Paranormal Activity would have been far scarier if they used Bernstein's attack theme when the demon dragged Katie out of the bed and down the hallway.

I have a message for Germany...

This movie scared the **** out of me when I was a kid and I would probably scare me now. I just watched Paranormal Activity at home alone 2 nights ago and I'm still slighty spooked in a very similar way that The Entity scared me.

reply

I wouldn't be able to claim this movie is much scarier if I hadn't seen both, would I?

reply

I too watched this movie as a kid back in 1981. I was 11 years old.

Hands down. Scariest movie I've ever seen. I found it unbearable to watch and haven't been able to watch it since. It was THAT scary.

The scariest movies I've ever seen are:
1. The Entity (1981)
2. Night of the Living Dead (1968)

DOES ANYBODY HAVE AN MP3 OR WAV OF THAT ATTACK THEME?
SCARED THE *beep* OUT OF ME...WATCHED IT HALF ASLEEP ON TV ONE NIGHT AND WAS GLAD TO BE SO SPOOKED BY IT

I'm running this monkey farm now frankenstein!!!Captain Rhodes

I just finished watching it and I liked it quite a lot, but it didn't scare me in the slightest, unfortunately. I am still looking for that scary film... I scare easily in real life, but didn't find a truly scary movie yet (I don't consider things poping out of nowhere horror).

What scared me beyond the savagery of the first attack was the "watchful waiting" Hershey and the audience are forced to perform ... things changing in the bedroom, subtle, nuanced creepy hints of even more horror to come. The characters' realism also added to the scariness, especially Hershey's relationship with her skeptical Dr. ... in this it resembles The Exorcist's realistic characters.

I agree--great post! This is a very suspensful movie, and the audience is on the edge of its seat waiting for the next attack, which can happen any time, anywhere. I, too, like the skepticism of the people around her. Most of the people in the movie, however sympathetic, really only believe her when they experience the phenomena for themselves.

I first saw this film when I was a kid (my mom let me watch most horror films even then), and most did not scare me...but this one almost made me wet my pants in fright!!!!
It was years till I could watch it again, and even now it chills me!

The fact that it was based on a true story chilled me more, and still does.
