Inglorious Basterds stole the music

Can't believe Tarantino stole music from this masterpiece.

Did anyone else notice it?

reply

Or, more accurately, Quentin Tarantino chose the music that was in this film because he always loved it so much. It's an homage.

reply

stole? jesus man, people reuse music all the time, chill. and im sorry, but i think popular opinion would agree with me that this is pretty far from a "masterpiece". but hey, to each his own.

reply

Stole? No.

Movies use various score excerpts from other movies all the time. The genius about Tarantino is instead of going for the obvious cues - like The Good The Bad and The Ugly or Psycho - he goes for the more obscure music that really fits in with his scenes. Such as the use of the attack stinger from The Entity, which was one of his most inspired music choices in the film.

* and it helped me find and watch The Entity, which is, itself, a very scary and inspired movie.

I have a message for Germany...

reply

no, but I noticed that Coppola stole music from Wagner for APOCALYPSE NOW.

Nearly everything in Tarantino's films was sampled from elsewhere. The guy hasn't had an original idea in his life, unless you consider making collages of other people's work to be original.

What I can't believe is that this derivative piece of trash ripped off its theme music from The Exorcist (well, actually I can; it's obvious the only thing the filmmakers had on their mind when they made The Entity was making money).

'The Exorcist' was much worse than this movie.

So if this is derivative trash, which I would strongly urge that it isn't, what kind of trash is 'The Exorcist'?

reply

I can see why he stole it cos that music is awesome!

Inglorious Basterds also had the David Bowie song Putting Out Fire With Gasoline which was the theme song to Cat People.

He's not stealing, he is referencing.

"He's not stealing, he is referencing."

Uh-huh, and the entity wasn't raping, it was just asserting itself erotically.

reply

Hahaha ZING!

reply

I guess he choose the music because in the scene of Inglorious Basterds, i think he was trying to express the emotional turmoil of rape when Landa walked in as the scene played out through the girls eyes. Maybe referring to sitting face to face with the person that ruined your life, yet you can only watch hopelessly as in a rape.

My opinion.
