House in the Film

Here is the location of the bridge used in the scene with the blind girl and her dog:

I live close to the filming location of The Beyond and if anyone is ever passing through the house can be toured. I wouldn’t go in the basement.

Cool info. Otis house looks huge, like those mansions or plantations found throughout the southeastern United States.

That bridge looks very similar to the one shown at the very end of The Haunted Mansion (2003), featuring Eddie Murphy;

The basement must be humid and damp, crusted with mold and dust. Out in the bayou and swamps of Louisiana, there is very little infrastructure built to manage the unique climate, which is tough to survive in, saying a lot complimentary-wise about the endurance of the locals there such as yourself.

Is the Otis house still in great shape? A place such as that ought to have some wonderful brick design on the inside. I hear that Louisiana is the voodoo capital of the United States; the film may be too intense for me, haha!

The Otis house is in restored shape now and I believe still offers tours most days of the week. I was only joking about the basement and I don’t think the house has one as depicted in the film. I’ve lived in southern Louisiana my whole life and I’ve never been in a basement in this area yet.

Here is a link to the bridge scene that provides a good feel of the film.

Wow, a basement in the lowlands of Louisiana? That must be pretty unusual.

I'm sure the remoteness of the swamp lands allowed old communities to survive without having to change their culture much -- the Cajuns, Creoles and African American communities, the latter descended from freed slaves. Making an assumption here -- one explanation as to why Cajuns speak so loudly is due to the fact they tend to live in areas within Louisiana where insect sounds are incredibly noisy.

I am from north Florida. You would be surprised over here by the number of people who have only seen the beach once or not at all in their lives.

The best store-bought kombucha I've tasted is based out of Louisiana; the Big Easy Nola' brand.

Ahhh, I missed this last post a year ago but I guess better late than never. Is this the brand you were referring to?
