dark sky dvd uncut?

im interested in purchasing this dvd but im confused...the dvd claims its uncut but there are extended gore scenes in the extras? is the actual feature the r rated version or is it actually uncut? can anyone help with this?

reply

I bought this last summer and believe it or not I still haven't opened it.

It says on the DVD case "rated R", it does not say uncut anywhere. even on darkskyfilms.com it does not say it is uncut.

I have the region 2 uncut version in the Box Of The Banned. There are far worse films out than this that are uncut. Just because there are extended gore scenes doe'nt mean it's been cut, they are just scenes that they felt did'nt need to be in there, I have watched them and they are crap anyway just like the film. Believe me when I say this is uncut but I would'nt waste your money.

On the DarkSky disc, the film is the "R" rated cut and the extra, uncut gore is a supplement. The film was released to theatres rated "R" and was not released "unrated" (like "Re-Animator"), therefore, the film is the original theatrical cut. Since the extra gore was excised prior to theatrical release, it is appropriate to make the disc this way.

It still sucks whatever way they wanna release it. I can't believe this was ever a Video Nasty.

so basically what you are telling me is that they were to cheap to cut the violence back into the film? anchor bay can do it...blue underground can do it...synapse can do it...but dark sky dropped the ball...that's upsetting

reply

Would it have been cool to have the gore inserted back in to the film to make a "director's cut"? Sure, but Dark Sky made the choice to release the film the way it was seen in theaters and added the gore as a supplement. That's fine with me as it's not that much anyhow. Dark Sky certainly isn't cheaping out on anybody - have you seen their steelbook 2-disc of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" or their extras-a-plenty editions of "Trilogy of Terror" and "Asylum"? Don't knock 'em til you try 'em!

i was more then happy with their releases of tcm and the fact they finally released a director's cut oh henry 2..but this just pisses me off because they stated that the gore was intact!!

A Directors cut is completly different to being cut.
A Directors cut is the way the Director would like to see it edited.
