'Star 80' was much, much better

I love Jamie Lee Curtis, but she's miscast in this inauthentic biopic, and this film feels too much like a soap opera. 6/10 stars from me based on entertainment value.

Lange is too harsh. It would have been like when Jamie Lee Curtis played Dorothy Stratton in a TV MOW. Kim Basinger would have been better.

The casting of Jamie Lee Curtis is absolutely ridiculous. Her face looks nothing like like Dorothy Stratten, who had soft, delicate features. Even though she did have a gorgeous body, it is impossible to believe her in the role. It's the same thing with "Gia," the story of model Gia Carangi. Angelina Jolie looks nothing like her either. It's just about impossible to find women whose beauty can match these models. This is one reason why "Star 80" is so wonderful; Mariel Hemingway is so gorgeous in that film, and she closely resembles Dorothy Stratten.

Not only does Mariel Hemingway look a lot more like Dorothy Stratten, "Star 80" has a real sense of foreboding and tension that this film sorely lacks.

Casting actors to play recent real-life figures can be problematic, especially for someone as distinctive-looking as models. But I think Angelina Jolie did a decent job in "Gia" despite bearing little resemblance to Carangi. I think Jamie Lee Curtis neither looks nor acts the part here, and the weak script doesn't help.

Jamie Lee Curtis looked like a scarecrow in DEATH OF A CENTERFOLD, and Mariel Hemingway came across like such a dim bulb in STAR 80.

I usually say actors don't have to look exactly like historical figures they play, that they just have to suggest them ... because people are more than their looks. But Stratten's story is so sad, you kind of want to see her represented well.
Maybe a young Marg Helgenberger could have done it.
