Still Deadly Boring

I remember being dragged to see this clinker in '81, and being horrified at how sterile, boring and lifeless it was, one of the first truly "soulless" films of what turned out to be the "soulless" decade (the 80s). Just watched it again on streaming video and amazingly, it still holds that soul-dead quality it had back then. Wes Craven and John Carpenter are two overrated hacks who had the uncanny ability to take even an interesting premise and turn it into dreary, boring coroprate junk.

What a cheery wank you are

As far as I'm concerned, you can add Tobe Hooper to that list of overrated hacks.

Big fan of Wes Craven but this was terrible.

Awful take.

Imagine calling the 80s 'soulless' and calling two of the greatest Horror directors of all time 'overrated hacks'. Baffling. It does make one ponder what exactly O.P considers a good Horror film and whom he considers a great Horror director.

Some people really just hate everything and everyone.

This was a fantastic film. Great natural rural scenery and lighting, some good P.O.V shots, beautiful Women, a couple of great kill scenes, a rather unique and uncommon premise (how many films have similar setups ? Children of the Corn and ??? at a push you can include films featuring cults like The Wicker Man but it's a small list), plenty of mystery and intrigue with a shock ending.

I mean Sleepaway Camp is praised for it's ending whilst this film did it just as good and beat it to the punch, though it's worth noting they're both indebted to Psycho.
