Why did dobbs kill himself like that?

The last time I seen this movie a few years back I remember that scene sticking out quite well for me.I'm trying to remember exactly what was behind all this and why he done himself in that way.

reply

It's called a SPOILER ALERT. Try using one.

Blah blah quote blah.

I id'nt think I was giving away much if any details. But it's better to be safe than sorry7 so i'll be more careful next time.

reply

Well, putting a death of a character in the thread title is definately a spoiler, Dude. To answer your question, I think Dobbs was so insane and obsessed with corpses being beautified on the morticians slab that he wanted to die in a gruesome way so he would be beautified as well.

"See, the problem I'm having is I've lost my stash and you're talking about elephants"

reply

Did I say how he died in the thread title, dude? You must be talking about what I put in my threads, not in the actual title of my threads.I'm sure you're paying attention, just not in the correct places.I'm not trying to bash you or anything,I have principles, just making an observation, that's all.I do think you're theory on why he died is pretty good.

reply

Crossed wires lonegurge, no offence meant Dude.

well, im watching it right now and the thread title f'd up my whole experience. Dude.

retarded OP is retarded.

Are you serious? Why did Dobbs kill himself!

That's the title of this thread, if you can't figure out that it's a spoiler then you shouldn't be posting here. He doesn't kill himself until the end you idiot!

Anyone who comes in here that hasn't seen the movie would read that! And you don't think there is a problem with that?

reply

What in the hell is all this fuss about? I just asked it as a question, where in the world did I mention the way he died in the question? You're making it sound like i was giving the details of his death. Yes i mentioned he killed hisself, but i thought you could mention stuff like that without a spoiler alert on the message boards? I did'nt mention that in any of the reviews for the film, which the editors mention you have to give spoiler alerts for. The reason I didn't give a spoiler alert is because I didn't see anything from the editors requring you do so for the message boards. If I would of done this as a review instead of a post then I would of given a spoiler alert. And I don't appreciate the response calling me a retard! I already banned him from sending me any more responses. I don't know it all like you guys do, gimme a freaking break!

reply

He killed himself AT THE END OF THE MOVIE. Someone who hasn't watched the entire film wouldn't know that Dobbs kills himself. The fact that you don't give away the technique is IRRELEVANT.

It'd be like if I posed something on 'The Usual Suspects' board saying, "Wow, can't believe Kevin Spacey made up that story the whole time" and then defended it by saying I didn't give away any details.

reply

Whatever you say holmes. If i'm defending my post in any way it's cause it wasn't my original intention to give away the details but if it came across that way it did, life goes on. Some people just need to make a mountain of a molehill ya know.

I think it's you that's not paying attention. Where did he accuse you of saying how he actually died in the thread title? He didn't. He just accused you have saying he died in the thread title.

But saying that, in a way you did, because you said he killed himself so anyone visiting the messageboards now knows he died by committing suicide without even looking in any of the threads.

If you go to message boards for a movie you haven't seen, you're gonna get spoilered. That's a given. This animosity toward the OP is a ridiculous over-reaction. And, I suspect, completely bogus outrage for the sole pleasure of bitching.

And besides, it's not even a spoiler - it's a misdirection probably due to a lack of comprehension. Dobbs does not "kill himself". He repairs himself.

reply

The movie's been out for 30 years, are you kidding me? *beep* spoiler warnings, the movie is three decades old. This board is to discuss the movie itself. If you want to find the rating, the director, the cast, the freaking plot summary then all of that is available without looking at the message board. Everything you'd want to know is available on the main page WITHOUT clicking on the message board which is to DISCUSS the movie. If you want to know what people thought of it, hey, here's a brilliant idea--read the reviews! There is no good reason to even click on here if you haven't seen it, so get a grip, people. I am tired of spoiler Nazis acting like every thread title should read like "Why did SPOILER do SPOILER to SPOILER and SPOILER?" Especially with a three decade old film. It's ridiculous. Bunch of dumbasses here.

reply

So what you are saying is nobody should click on the messageboards if they haven't watched the movie. I haven't heard that before. I often click on the messageboards to get a better feel of what the movie is about. If a thread gives a spoiler alert then of course I don't delve into that thread. Also unfortunately some of the threads on the messgeboards are shown at the bottom when you go to a film's page. Are we suppose to hide our eyes from that too?

It's just a dumb inconsiderate thing to give a blatant spoiler in the thread's title. Not only does someone now know that one of the main characters actually dies, but that he commits suicide.

Worst of all the OP, who clearly has two accounts if everyone looks back at the posts, instead of apologising and perhaps deleting his thread and posting again, tried pathetically to defend himself and insulted those who had the right to be annoyed by telling them not to worry about it.

"the movie is three decades old". Maybe but it's a movie that only a small minority of people have ever heard of, let alone seen. None of my contemporary friends have ever seen it.

I just saw it for the first time last night. Was looking at the Cujo page and saw a reference to this movie. I had seen the name and picture on Netflix before but just got around to watching it last night. Thankfully, I didn't come here first! By now, I'm fully aware of the rampant spoilers that do not warn before you scroll down the page.

It was a spoiler right in the title, even though it was something of a red herring since he didn't actually stay dead. Dobbs begged Dan to shoot him so that he could become of his own children, and so he proceeded to finish the job. Although, I must say he was pretty fugly-looking until after he got "perfected".

People who complain about spoilers from a movie made in 1981 are seriously missing a few screws. By now I think it's safe to create "spoiler" threads for a film that is over 30 years old.

reply

So have you seen every film in the last 100 years? Thinking everyone has indicates you're missing a few screws yourself.

Really sick of spoiler crybabies. If you can't enjoy a movie after knowing what happens in it then something is missing in your brain.
