Nonsense plot (SPOILERS)

A few examples:

The family's car runs off the road and the family seeks shelter in the house where the zombie army just happens to be waiting for them. What?? How the hell did the zombies know ahead of time that the family would crash their car and take shelter there?

And why would the old mortician have told the sheriff that the hitchhiker's body had disappeared? What possible purpose did that serve?

Remember one of the walking dead cut across the road to cause the family to swerve and crash their car. Yes, in reality it would be a dumb plan, but for a movie it’s passable.

As for Dobb’s going to report the missing body of the hitchhiker, that was just a movie red herring to throw you off of thinking Dobb’s was behind it all. Also, Dobb’s was playing with the sheriff. As he said at the end of the movie, “How I love playing these little chess games with you.”

The cop not immediately calling the FBI after the 2nd murder was a little iffy. All the people passing through the town and disappearing not being investigated from outside. How did Dodds know the camera man or others haven't told anybody where they were going, just in case they had cops sniffing around from outside. So when Dodds resurrects them and puts them to work at the gas station there could be a family member or cop popping up looking for them. First place people go after a long ride is the gas station. Not a smart man is old Doddery Dodds.

The family being murdered was definitely the most janky part. The actress playing the mother was terrible. She barged into someone's house in the middle of the night shouting and being rude like she was being kept waiting by whoever lived there, even though it looked empty and run down, there were cobwebs everywhere and no electricity. She then bossed the husband to go down into the cellar because she had a hunch the homeowner was fixing the fuse to get the lights back.

When he was only gone for a minute she shouts for him as if he was goofing off and he reappears behind her when the cellar door was the other way.

And don't get me started on the slow walking in unison zombies carrying lighting rigs around. How do they manage to chase people down like that, and whats with all the lights?

The zombies also seem to pop up in the perfect place, they must have CB radios to communicate and organise where everybody should be so they can just jump out like with the killing of the hitchhiker. Everybody was ready and waiting at the boat yard for the hitchhiker and for the family at the creepy house miles out. Right after we saw the whole town at the coffee shop with the family hot footing it out of town, the town folkz were there, ready. So the whole town must have got into cars, followed them taking a short cut to get ahead, parking up and quietly getting into place, then the whole ruse counts on the family crashing the car in the perfect spot for one of the villagers to then do the olde light in the window trick to lure the family into the house.

Another blunder and continuity error was the hitchhiker girl killed later in the film, was in the crowd of zombies earlier at the family murder and in the coffee shop when the family first came in for directions.

That hitchhiker killing must have been switched around to the back to put the family killing at the front part of the film in the editing room. Maybe because the movie was pointing at Dodds as the bad guy and they had shot footage of the hitchhiker being brought back to life by a woman in the mortuary to bring the suspicion off Dodds and throw a red herring in there. So they switched the scenes around to bring the heat off Dodds at a later point in the movie to throw people off, hoping nobody would realise the Hitchhiker was in the crowd.

She was front and center banging on the doors in the house and at the front of the zombie crowd. She was also in the diner, so I wonder if there were any scenes filmed where the film acknowledged that she became part of the townsfolk, swallowed up and her individuality was stripped away. Just like with the cameraman becoming a gas station attendant.

This is an editing error. In the novelisation, there is proper continuity on this. The placing of the murder was changed for the movie.

Interesting, what's your take on this?

I imagine the killings were switched to bring the suspicion off Dodds further into the movie, and they had the footage of a woman bringing the hitchhiker back to life after Dodds leaves the room, so to take the suspicion off Dodds later in the movie (when the evidence kept stacking up on him) they switcharood those killings to insert the only footage they had that would take the heat off Dodds.
