I have seen Man of Marble, but still confused

This film was interesting but my lack of knowledge about historical background probably kept me from fully understanding it. I am vaguely aware of the Solidarity movement and Lech Walesa. Indeed, at first I thought that the Tomczyk guy was supposed to be Walesa, the great leader of Polish liberation. But later, when the real Walesa showed up in the film, I realized that Tomczyk was some less important figure. But if so, one might ask why the big fuss over Tomczyk, he wasn't that important anyway.

Also, it seems that quite a few scenes on the film were actual documentary recordings of the events. I was never quite sure how much was documentary footage. That might be a good thing, though - an immersion of reality and film.

As I had seen Man of Marble, I more or less understood the father-son part. But that did not seem that important for the film. The most interesting part of the film, for me, was the guy who was ordered by the secret police to do the report on strikers.

The synthesizer-rich soundtrack, however, how could anyone not like that? Sounded a lot like Tangerine Dream.
