Needs Updated!!

The song this movie was based on is an excellent springboard for a full, in depth film subject but in my personal opinion the T.V. movie wasn't the way to go with it due to the extra limitations t.v. puts on everything..time, subject matter, language...I'm not implying this could be a better film if some over the top film company added lots of explosions, more violence and nudity...but a deeper story involving character background, more focus on the main character's inner struggles, better focus on the romance..(I personally wasn't convinced of the 'bond' that should have been completely evident between our 2 lovers in the t.v. story)..With Hollywood's recent attempts to regurgitate past films and t.v. shows with a little modern umph..why doesn't somebody give this one a serious attempt?? We could remove the "Look, Kenny can act" aspect and not put so much focus on that character..(I don't want to give the wrong idea...I actually loved the Uncle Matthew character and Kenny Roger's performance to me is still one of the more believable performances of this story)..But wouldn't/couldn't this be a so much better movie if it was given a better chance??
