Jim Thompson Book

Has anyone read the JT book on which this was based? In my opinion, this is the best adaptation of a JT book I have ever seen. Funny that it is French AND set in Senegal. Lots of the original dialogue from the book seems to be used in the movie and even though when I originally read the book, Pop. 1280, I didn't picture Noiret as the sheriff, he is PERFECT in this role.

Loved the book and the film, with its under-stated, perfect ending.

Noiret was very good, even though, physically, he was nothing like how I imagined the character in the book.

The film adaptations of "The Getaway" completely blew it when they discarded the original, surreal, brilliant last chapters.

I liked the adaptation of "The Grifters", and can't comment on the film of "The Killer Inside Me" yet.

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

this is a great adaptation of the book. a real one. not a humorless literal transcription of a book to film that you see in h'wood.

I haven't read the book but agree that Noiret was perfect.
