Trivia Error

There is a mistake in the trivia section as Robert Mitchum was not in "Rio Bravo". The part of the town drunk who is re-enlisted as John Wayne's deputy is played by Dean Martin. However Mitchum did play the drunken sheriff J.P.Harrah in Howard Hawks' 1966 western, El Dorado, whom Wayne rehabilitates (as he does the Martin character in "Rio Bravo"). Did Tavernier/Noiret mean to refer to this film and get the two muddled up? It's a common mistake as they are both a reworking of the same plot by the same director with the same basic characters and both have John Wayne as the lead.

reply

Tavernier says in the interview with him on the Criterion DVD that Noiret insisted on having a dark pink shirt like the one worn by - and this is stated specifically - Dean Martin's character in "Rio Bravo." The original submitter of that piece of trivia must have been mistaken.

reply

But that's just as odd, as it's Wayne's character that wears the pink shirt in RB.

Oh whisky, leave me alone.

reply

It's not a shirt but the undershirt. And it's Dean Martin.

reply

it is odd.
