The Original Brokeback Moutain.

John Belushi broke his back on the mountain.

It was just a sprain. I'm just saying. :-)

It does carry a theme akin to BBM--- 2 people whom you'd think never would have been meant for each other, meet on a beautiful mountain and eventually discover they're meant for each other, then....

(spoiler space)

...due to some important differences and circumstances in their lives, agree to a long-distance relationship with, it's implied, only occasional meetings.

I usually despise obviously chick-flicky "relationship" films--- and I AM, or was, a "chick"--- but BBM, and this one "way back in the day", I actually liked. Probably because in many ways, they both defied convention.

I prefer to think of "Same Time, Next Year" as being the original "Brokeback Mountain," but "Continental Divide" has its charms as well. And while I've never been a chick – at least as long as I can remember – I do like a good romantic film if it's well written and has a strong cast.
