He never looked comfortable...

playing opposite Blair Brown. It may have been his inexperience acting in a romantic comedy or was it that the two didn't get along. Does anyone know?

I don't have any background information, but I actually thought they worked together quite well. The ending ('Just one more stop... ') wouldn't have been so unusually sweet, if they hadn't.

Had John lived longer, it would have been interesting to see if he returned to the romantic comedy genre. He wasn't your typical dashing leading man (without meaning to be unkind!) but I think that's what made him so likeable when he showed off his sensitive side.

I would have loved to have seen John playing the romantic lead again. Actually, I would have loved to have see John in anything again, for his career and his life were way too short.

I do think the romance with Blair Brown was a bit awkward, but that's partly because this was a different genre for John. I honestly would have preferred they had cast him with someone a bit less adorable than Blair, but that's the way they cast sitcoms these days as well!

She is adorable, isn't she?! I also liked her in her previous film, Altered States.

I loved Blair Brown in "Altered States." It seems like she was really primed to become a big star in the early '80s, but it didn't quite happen. Fortunately, she's carved out a decent career for herself with supporting movie and TV roles.

One word: COCAINE.....lots of it.

Yup, he was COKED OUT, insecure about his weight, out of his element, and he was intimidated by the female lead. I read the book WIRED, he was a big problem on the film.

He was drug free for this film.
In Wired, he never liked the casting of Brown and

Hmmmm, hard to know what/who to believe. Brown contributed to Judith Pisano Belushi's book on John and said she had nothing but fond memories of him and he was not a problem at all.

I know that he wasn't sure he could do the role. He kept changing his mind about doing the role before finally saying yes. They did get along to some extent.

he was NOT on drugs during the film. this was one of the cleanest periods of his life. good performances by both. john's character is out of his element in the outdoors, so a lot of what you may consider "uncomfortable" comes from the character. John was very nervous about the love scenes and that does come through. but their dialogue scenes, play pretty natural.

John was not on drugs making this film - all the books about him are very clear on this matter.

He WAS uncomfortable with the part, which he both said he needed to do and couldn't do.

reply

Belushi just felt wrong for the part
