I finally got round to watching it.

Wow! Pleasantly surprised! I enjoyed it far more than I expected. For some reason I got the same vibe from it as I did from a lot of the Martial Arts films from the 70s (if that makes any sense).

I know hat you're talking about with the reference to the martial arts films.

I think Conan's an underrated gem of a movie and it's got a lot more depth than people give it credit for. A lot of '80s Action Movie Man flicks are written off today because, I think, of the reputations of their leading men. Stallone hammered his reputation into schlock jock dust, but First Blood and Rocky are profound and excellent films with great commentary on life and humanity, and a lot of deep themes.

Conan is the same way: it's got a lot of philosophically insightful thing to say, but we just think of it as "AHnold!" and we remember the quote about "What is best in life" or Arnold praying to Crom or whatever. But it's got a lot more going on than that.

I'm glad you dug it.

reply

It's exactly what it should be. A brawny, violent, silly mixture of swordplay and sorcery.

reply

Plus he gets to punch a camel, so there's that too, lol.

reply

Haha loved that part.

reply

It was just so random, lol.

reply

People dont understand this is an excellently made movie with oscar worthy soundtrack, sets and costumes. With renowned classic actors such as James Earl Jones. Also direction and cinematography are top. The only silly things about the movie is the fact it is fantasy and Arnolds accent, everything else is better than 99 percent of films ever made. Better than most oscar winning films but snobs will never realize it.

reply

By Crom, we should punch their throats and listen to the lamentations of their women!

reply

And punch their camels.

reply

That scene always cracks me up.

reply

Cinematic gold!

reply

HOW DID SHOGUN MISS THIS POST?...HE GETS ALL ERECT WITH EXCITEMENT AT THE MENTION OF CONAN.🤔

reply

And now I understand why, lol.

reply

eeeewwww😂

reply

Can we go over there? Where the others cannot see?

reply

Such a creepy scene
That Priest Of Set guy picked the wrong one!

I just got around to finally watching this and was also quite impressed. My only gripe ( if you can call it that) is the final kill of James Earl Jones, I wish that had been the only beheading in the movie. I loved the other beheading, made me realise how brutal the movie actually is, but I think it would have had more impact as the final kill if it was the only one.

reply

Without wanting to get all art-critic sounding, but I wonder if it was meant to mirror the beheading of the mother at the beginning?

reply

Yeah I think you are right. I actually forgot she got beheaded. Don't drink and critique.

reply

I disagree - drink always comes first. Sliánte🍻

reply

Cheers big ears.

reply

By Crom! I can’t believe both of you are just getting around to seeing this! This film is the well spring from which I flow.

reply

Did you watch the sequel? It has it's moments but it's not great like this one, the sidekick is super annoying too.

reply

No, not yet, but I certainly intend to.
