What's with punching the camel?

I laugh every time I see it.

Paul: No seconds on dessert for Jeff and Sandra tonight.

He was under the influence when he did it.

I think you answered your own question. It's simply there to be one of the funniest things ever in a movie.

religion (re li jun) n. - the idea that you must think like me or suffer for all of eternity

I guess I'm not all that original. It seems the camel punch ends up on a lot of 'best punch' lists. But I recently posted my list of favorite punches, and it made the top five: http://inthemouthofdorkness.blogspot.com/2011/03/fistfull-of-punches-m atts-picks.html

It's a tribute to Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles perhaps!
It was pretty funny.

reply

A friend of Mel Brooks, Cid Caesar was a mean drunk and once at some sort of out door event punched a horse that threw his wife and he knocked it out.

Pretty much all horse punching in moving refers back to that incident

And I think there was a cut or trimmed scene earlier ware the camel did something like spit on Conan that makes Conan's hate for that camel make seance

reply

Interesting, did not hear the before.

Mongo FTW!!

reply

You have that confused.

The camel spits on Conan in the sequel.

Requiescat in pace, Krystle Papile. I'll always miss you.

reply

In a CUT SCENE the camel spits on Conan in the first movie

Like there was also a CUT SCENE of the director selling them Squirrel on a stick

They reused the spitting gag in the second movie

reply

it just shows that conan is a berserker, when he gets drunk he can punch anything , he doesnt care

reply

actually, watching this movie on AMC with STORY NOTES, it appears that in the first scene where he first mounts a camel, they had to keep retaking the shot because the camel kept walking Arnold into the hut support beam. In the cut that made it to film, you can see he just barely misses it with his head.

I'm sure hitting the camel was payback! ;) as well as a tribute to Mongo!

reply

It wasn't in the script. Arnie just likes to go around punching camels.

reply

He hates camels! Something to do with being forgotten at the zoo as a child...

Harming any animal is *beep* up and that scene ruins the whole movie for me.

reply

I'm completely against the harming of animals as well but I don't think Arnold REALLY hit it. Just gave it a little jab-tap. I was more upset when Arnold grabbed that chicken by the neck during the indulgence scene. Poor little thing. This is still easily one of my favorite movies though. I grew up watching it. It's the best.

You're telling me you've never gotten high on something like Black Lotus and punched a camel. You've not yet lived my friend.

reply

That camel shouldn't have been talking about Conan's mama like that

This is the greatest thing I've ever read on the internet.
