the first movie I remember seeing in the theater

Born in 1975, I'm sure my parents took me to other movies before this one...but the first I remember was this 3-D movie. I felt awful with an earache and it was so loud!

Other first films I have vivid memory of seeing:

Fox and the Hound '81- still a fave story
Zapped '82 - first boob movie
ET '82 - first tearjerker
Secret of NIMH and Last Unicorn '82 - great animated movies with a serious story
Big Chill '83 - first real adult movie...

I don't think I saw Empire Strikes Back in the theater...think it was sold out when we went.

What are you first movie theater memories?

I was born 5 years before you and my first movie going experiences were all Disney films, mostly live action one's like "The Strongest Man in the World"(Sequel to Computer Wore Tennis Shoes) and "Gus: The Football Kicking Mule." The first actual grown up movie I remember seeing at the theater was the 1976 version of King Kong. Either that or "The Pink Panther Strikes Again." "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Star Wars" and the like soon followed.

Being born in 1988 the first movies I remember seing were The Secret Garden, Mrs Doubtfire and Beethoven II. LOL, those aren't really great movies, but I guess they're all pretty family friendly.

I also caught Zapped! in '82 on the big screen, I was 12.

My first was sometime around 1974 - Snoopy Come Home.

Saw Jaws several times as a youngster at the Drive-In and at the theater. Scary!!

I'm older than any of the previous posters (born 1962) so I remember older movies. The first movie I remember seeing was "2001" on a HUGE screen. The apes scared me silly but then I got bored and fell asleep:)

The only other one that I remember was "The Vampire Lovers" from 1970. My dad had no problem taking me to see an R rated horror flick at the age of 8. Turns out it was about lesbian vampires! Actually it's pretty tame now but I couldn't figure out what was going on back then--I figured all the women were just good friends....

Excellent! Very good friends! That is a good film oddly enough and the closest adaptation of 'Carmilla' so far. Has more nudity that the novella though.

"Nothings gonna change my world!"

reply

The novella has almost zero nudity! I know for a fact that it doesn't have the bedroom scene with the topless women kissing! I think "Blood and Roses" was a LITTLE closer to "Camilla" only because the lesbianism was toned down (no nudity either).

I was born in 1970 and remember seeing this movie in theaters also, though it wasn't the first. I remember it being rated PG back then(?!) Anyway, we used to go to the drive-in theater when I was young because that was all we had in my hometown until 1980. I watched a lot of Disney fare, such as Freaky Friday, Bedknobs and Broomsticks and the Herbie movies. The first good movie I can remember seeing at the drive-in was Star Wars Episode IV. Needless to say, seing it on DVD with surround sound is a far different experience. The drive-in began showing X-rated movies once the indoor cinema opened and I believe both were destroyed by a tornado about three years ago.

My first movie at the theater was Mel Brooks' High Anxiety. And then the following movies (I do not remember the order)

Conan The Barbarian
Friday The 13th Part III (3D)
Cujo
Empire Strikes Back (Only SW movie I've ever saw in theaters before the Special Editions and Prequels released)

I was in high school when this movie came out and me and my step brother went and saw it. I thought it was pretty cool and IMO no 3D movie had touched it in 3D gimmicktry(is this even a word?). As for early movie memories, I remember my mom and dad piling us kids in the car and going to the drive in. We saw movies like:

The Planet of the Apes
Beneath the Planet of the Apes
Escape from the Planet of the apes
Scream and Scream Again
The Incredible 2 Headed Transplant
The Love Bug

Just to name a few.

When you steal from Peter and give to Paul, you will always have the support of Paul.

Either The Poseidon Adventure or Bad News Bears. I seem to remember going to the drive in to as a young child, but I could not tell you what the movies were. I was too young.

I grew up at the drive-in, but the first movie I actually remember is The Bridge on the River Kwai. It was 1964 and I was 8. The movie came out in 1957, but that was the advantage that drive-ins had. No cable TV, no DVDs.

In 1973 I saw Bullitt and Bonnie and Clyde on a double feature and both of those movies were 4-5 years old.

I live where there are 3 drive-ins within 90 miles. If the weather is good, I'm going to see Knight and Day Thursday night.
