Bahnhof Zoo

I was at Bahnhof Zoo a few years ago (before I knew of Christiane F) and it seemed like a pretty regular, normal station, not like a junkie's hangout. Was the station redeveloped since the film? Was Bahnhof Zoo much like as portrayed in the film?

The Bahnhof Zoo was redeveloped after 1990, when Berlin was the German Capital, again. You can't compare the "new" station with the old one in the 1970s/1980s. In the 70s/80s the station really looked like as seen in the movie and it was hard to exit the station to the backside, where the so called "Strich" has been.

Was Germany a sнithole in 70/80? I've been thinking about it, usually Europe in 70-80s films is kind of bleak. It was the time between oil crisis and dissolution of USSR, I think economically it was a difficult period.

The stations was redeveloped after German reunion.

during the cold war the station "Zoologischer Garten" was - as the traks - owned by the GDR, even it was located in West-Berlin ( as all other trainstations and suburban-train-stations as well )! The GDR - of cource - never put any extra money into this stations. Only the most necessary repair works were done, and to guaranty the running of the trains.

This why "Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten" became a very runied station and an eyesore next to the famous shopping boulevard KURFUERSTENDAMM and Kaiser-Wilhelm-Memorial-Church!
