What does the tattoo mean?
Those tats that Detlef and Christiane had, was there any meaning to those or were they just meaningless curves?

I thought it looked like a question mark. Detlef's life was a question mark. In other words, Detlef questioned himself whether or not he could make it without heroin, there is no mention in the movie of his family as he lived with Axel, so no parenteral figures, his only friends were junkies, he quit school and the only work he knew was prostitution. Another question was his sexuality: was he a straight boy or a gay boy or bisexual?
shareI'd say probably bisexual but he was pretty ashamed of it.
