I remember reading the book back in the 1980s and seeing the film.
I had almost forgotten about it until I read in a newspaper a couple of years ago that the original magazine articles the book had inspired had been fake.
Did I actually read this?,is it true that it is fake?
Obviously the Zoo Station area was well known for drugs and hookers but is the book a true story?
No it's not fake. It's a true story about real people. In one of the foreign editions of the book there are pictures of the real people and places where the events took place.

I am British so had a foreign edition of the book.
It had no photos however.
Perhaps some detils were changed to make it more interesting?I would like to know why it was reported that it was fake if it was not.
I think the German edition was the one with the pictures. I have no idea why it was reported as fake. Where did you read that?

I can't remember where I read it but it was a few years ago in a British newspaper.
I never saw the edition with pictures but it sounds odd to me that even junkie prostitutes would want to get photographed.
I will see if I can find anything on the internet about the false story claim.

It's true.
Her real name is Christiane Felscherinow.
She is listed in imdb.com, because she tried herself in movies and music.
And you can look her up in wikipedia, google, where you also can see photos of her.
Wikipedia says, that the authorities took her son temporarily away from her in 2008 because of drug problems, she never got away from her drug issues completely.
Her most recent arrest for drugs was back in 2011 not too long ago. Sad.
Seems like drugs really got a hold on her. Maybe because she started at such a young age.
Btw, Go Ask Alice (another autobiography about a teenage girl addicted to drugs) was proven to be fake.
Maybe you are thinking of 'Go ask alice' which was also made into a Movie. I read 'Go ask..' when I was a teen and i thought it was compelling, when I reread it many years later, it really sounded very fake to me. Christiane F. the book, still stands up
