I Fell In Love With This Book!

It's just that this book is beautifully written. It's not just characters, but it's also how Chaim Potok describes the conflicts between fathers and sons, religion and psychological thinking. It's a masterpiece novel

Don't piss me off

Chaim Potok also wrote one of the finest novels ever: My Name is Asher Lev. It too deserves to be filmed with this much care.

Yes! If anyone enjoys the book and/or film "The Chosen" I would encourage you to read "My Name is Asher Lev" and "The Gift of Asher Lev" by the same author, Chaim Potok. Incredibly powerful and sensitive books which elucidate the paradoxes and sometimes ambivalence of living a religious Jewish life in the modern era.

Oh I know what you mean I absolutely LOVE this book as well. I love the way Chaim Potock acknowledges that friendship brings together what stereotypes and discrimination tend to seperate. I am not a Jew but I think people of all faiths and background can enjoy the beauty and profoundness of this novel. It truly is a masterpiece, definetly one of the best books I have read in a long, long time.

This is one of the best threads on this site, honestly. Most people here are so full of BS trying to over analyze everything. Most of them will never read the book nor watch this movie because they'd rather discuss plastic surgery or cry about Billy Bob Thornton's antics.

One of my top 10 favorite books.

I just finished it for the second time a few days ago and I agree, it's an incredible novel. I read it for the first time when I was in my mid-teens and re-reading it now (in my mid-twenties) was a fascinating experience! The only thing I could remember from the first time I read it was that I had a very strong emotional reaction at the end, but couldn't figure out why! It kind of weirded me out at the time!

This time, I had the same reaction, but I understood why. The characters are so true and alive that the connection you have with them by then end is something quite profound. I've read Davita's Harp and My Name is Asher Lev as well, and they're both excellent novels.
