Extras iin film
I am curious about the many extras in the Hasidic scenes (such as the wedding) and would like to know if they were Hasidic or just actors.
shareHaving been one of the extras, I can attest to the fact that a few of the extras were indeed Chassidic, while many others were non-Chassidic Jews, and a few weren't even Jewish at all.
shareI was also an extra on that film. We were in classrooms scenes (with Chaim Potok as the Talmud teacher!) and I am definitely not Jewish, nor were most of the other actors I knew on the set. We were all just grateful for the day or two of work. Growing up in NYC, I was aware of the Hassidic community but knew nothing about them. The book was well-written and gave me great insight into the Hassidic lifestyle.
