Tom's girlfriend.....

I know he died in 1982 aged 42, but what happened to his girlfriend Jennifer? There's no mention of her in any of the segments about what he did on the internet. I understand from the movie they weren't married, but to airbrush her out of the picture so entirely seems very unfair. However, did she even exist or was that merely poetic licence for the film, which would make her disappearance in the real story entirely understandable.

I'd just really like to know what happened or if she even was real?
